Pleasants County, West Virginia is nestled along the Ohio River. Its county seat, St. Marys, has the unique feature of having a railroad that runs through the center of the main street downtown. St. Marys also boasts a beautiful Marina. This area has played host for the past 24 years to West Virginia’s premiere bass fishing tournament during the WV Bass Festival the second weekend of June each year. Belmont is also a flourishing town in Pleasants County with both residential and business interests—including industrial plants. It is located just south of St. Marys along Rt. 2 and is also home to the county’s Middle school and an elementary school. Newport is a small sister-town just across the river from St. Marys in Washington County, Ohio. Rt. 7 is the main artery that runs through Newport. |

The Pleasants Area Chamber of Commerce was formally established in October 2000 by a group of concerned businessmen and women. Our Chamber is made up of businesses, individuals, schools, churches and government and community agencies. It is a membership driven organization that works to project a positive image of the community through beautification and strives to improve the quality of life through the support of community activities, cultural events and enrichment programs. The Chamber functions through an elected board of nine directors with an executive committee of president, vice president and treasurer elected each year by the board. Directors are elected to three-year terms. In August 2006, a paid part-time director was hired to administrate the programs and activities of the Chamber. |

May 3, 2008 - Onion Festival This annual festival promotes the sale of freshly harvested Sweet Vidalia Onions from Georgia for the benefit of special medical needs in our community. It also features a Vidalia Onion cooking contest. June 13-15 - WV Bass Festival This 25th annual event will be a celebration of our River and Rail Heritage. The Bass Tournament will boast top-dollar prize money that is guaranteed for the top three teams. 1st Place—$6,000 sponsored by Wright’s Riverside Marine and Evinrude 2nd Place—$5,000 sponsored by Wright’s Riverside Marine and Ranger Boats 3rd Place—$2,500 sponsored by Bob Yoak Ford and Ford Motor Co. |
